Downingtown Balvihar is a family of volunteer moms, dads, and teachers who gather every Sunday so our children stay close to Indian culture, language, and values. Age 3 through grade 12.

Downingtown Balvihar (DBV) is a close-knit, volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the West Chester, PA area, built by parents who want our kids to grow up knowing who they are and where they come from. Through classes and hands-on experience, we share Indian culture, values, languages, traditions, festivals, and history.
We gather every Sunday from September through May, with classes for children age 3 (pre-K) through grade 12. You don’t need to know a thing about Indian culture to join us.

Students who graduate from our classes don’t have to say goodbye. The DBV Youth Group (DBVYG) keeps them part of the family through volunteer work, debate, and mentorship.

Discussion & debate
Led by mentors and guest speakers, students explore what Indian identity means in modern American life.
Leadership & teaching
Graduates return to lead, teach younger students, and shape the community that shaped them.

Working with People’s Pantry
Children collected 60 jars of peanut butter and jelly for the People’s Pantry during the “Spread the Love” campaign.
Project C.U.R.E. Service Project
Youth Group students volunteered their Saturday morning to help send much-needed medical supplies to people in need.
